Households
The family as one unit. Members, a primary contact, combined value and documents, and a shared portal view only when every member has agreed.
A household is the unit you actually serve: one record, the clients in it, a primary contact, their combined accounts and their combined documents. Membership is a link from each client to the household record, not a surname typed twice, so two unrelated Smiths never end up in the same household.
Put clients in a household
- On a client's record: the household picker in the header moves the client into a household, creates a new one, or takes them out.
- Several at once: in Contacts, tick the clients, choose Edit 3 selected (the number is yours), then Household. The review shows exactly who will change before anything is saved.
- From the household page: Add a member and Remove from household.
A household with a back-office code is shared across the firm. A household with only a name belongs to the advisor who created it.
Each member carries a role: head, spouse, dependent or other. A trust or a company can belong to a household too, listed with the members.
Open a household
In Contacts, switch the list to By household. Each household is a band over its members; click its name to open the household page. Back to clients returns to the list.
What the household page shows
| Tab | What is on it |
|---|---|
| Overview | Household investable assets, cash, number of accounts, each member's share, and the weighted year-to-date return. |
| Documents | Every member's documents on one shelf, with the owner, category and date. Internal documents are marked. |
| Reporting | Your households by value, with each one's share of your book, and an export. |
- Primary contact: nominate one member with Make primary contact. Until you do, the longest-standing member is used. If the nominated person leaves the household, the page says so and asks for another.
- The return is weighted by market value, so a small account cannot swing the household number.
- Investable assets is not net worth: it adds up custodied market value and never subtracts debt.
The shared view in the client portal
Off by default. Each member sees only their own accounts until you turn on Members see the household on the household page.
- Turn it on. WealthY asks for every member's agreement first.
- Tick each member who agreed. The date and who recorded it are kept.
- Turn on. From then on, each member's portal shows the other members' accounts.
Rules that always hold:
- Nobody sees anything until every current member has agreed.
- A member who joins later pauses the shared view until their agreement is recorded too.
- Turning it off clears the agreements.
- What is shared is limited to account names, types, custodian, the last four digits of the account number, value, cash and holdings. Never an email, phone number, address, SIN or notes.
- Performance for another member's accounts stays in their own portal.
